| This is a
thoroughly revised fourth edition of my book of selections from Tiru-Valluvar's great
book. A high degree of civilization in the truest sense of the word is disclosed by
Kural which was written more then 1500 years ago. Without such civilization
Tiru-Valluvar's book could not have come into being. Kural is not a mere book of
aphorisms. It is a work linked with the life of the people in all its aspects. This
book of giving English renderings of selected couplets, it is hoped, will help the
non-Tamil people of India to appraise the Tamil civilization of Tiru-Valluvar's time in
proper measure. The couplets are not printed with the feet divided according to Tamil prosody but so as to facilitate readers following the meaning easily. Madras 4th September 69 C. RajaGopalachari |
