Symbolism In The Hindu Pantheon > Page1
A highly evolved religion like Hinduism has four main features-a philosophy, its epics, mythology and rituals-by means of which its truth and tradition and its spiritual culture are sought to be kept live and kicking among its followers.
Apart from standard religious texts, the spiritual ideals and philosophical concepts of the religion are propagated through mythological stories to a large section of the people. In order, however, to meet the needs of even less evolved minds, symbols are needed; because, a symbol is a concrete thing which every man can see and remember. It helps even the unlettered man to fix the truths as revealed by it in his mind. And he ma evolve spiritually. That is why we say Saguna worship ultimately leads to Nirguna worship.
