Bhasuraka was
the lion-king of the forest.
Each day the animals of the forest sent him one of themselves as food for the day.
One day it was the turn of a young rabbit to serve as the lion's meal.
On the way to the lion-king's den there was a well.
The rabbit peeped into it and saw its own image in the deep water.
Ah, said the rabbit, "I shall kill the lion today by my cleverness'.
The rabbit went to Bhasuraka late. Bhasuraka had become very hungry by then.
He asked, "Why are you late, young chap?"
Trembling,
the rabbit replied, "The fault is not mine, Sir. I started early, but a lion stopped
me on the way.
'I am going to Bhasuraka, our lion-king' said I. 'I am the real king. There is no other
lion-king', said the lion".
