Introduction
One distinct feature in. some of the temples of Himachal Pradesh
that has to be noticed is the wall paintings which have been decaying through
neglect. In the recent decades there has been some study into the wall paintings by a
number of scholars although they were noticed earlier by archaeologists and historians*.
Dr. Miss Mira Seth's laborious research in "Wall Paintings of the Western
Himalayas" is an excellent study on the subject. The wall paintings though not very
old (17th to 19th Century) give us a good idea of the religious sense which found an
expression in them.
Wall paintings are to be seen in the
temples of the districts of Kangra, particularly, and in Kulu, Chamba, Mandi, Mahasu, and
Simla
