Introduction
In Villivakkam village of Chunampet taluk in the district of Chingleput of Madras State, seventy miles south of Madras, is situated the temple of Siva called Kiratamar - jareswarar. Its former fame has passed into oblivion. The temple is a very small one; but for the generosity of the landlords of Chunampet, who are renovating it, it
would have been a heap of ruins burying its past history under itself. In different ages the village was known by different names such as Kiratamarjarapuram and Gangaikondasozhapuram. Like all other temples, Nearabout there is a sacred tank called Pundarika Pushkarani.
