Samartha Ramadasa was a saint, statesman and a soldier of the spirit.
He lived but three hundred years ago.
As the spiritual mentor of Chhatrapati Shivaji, he brought about a renaissance in our
country and in the thinking of our
people.
Through the medium of religion be drove the fear of the foreigner from the minds of our
countrymen.
Samartha Ramadasa was born on Chaitra Suddha Navami, in 1608 in a Brahmin family of Jambha
in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra. His father was Suryaji Pant and his mother
Ranubai.
They were of the Jamadagni gotra.
Originally named Narayana, he was the younger son of his parents. Sri Rama was the
hereditary deity worshipped by this family.
