The Kumbha Mela Page1

Long before the world was born, there was a sea full of milk. It was called Kshira Sagara.

That sea contained amrita. By drinking amrita one remained always young.

The Devas wanted to have the amrita all for themselves. The Asuras too wanted to drink the amrita.

The Devas and Asuras were born enemies. They always fought one another. In the same way, the Devas and Asuras started churning the sea of milk to get amrita.

For churning, you need a churning-rod and also a rope.

The Meru mountain became the churning- rod.
