Temples And Legends Of Tamilnadu Introduction

A prince of t his part of the country had a daughter. She was very beautiful to look at, but there was a bodily deformity. The girl had three breasts instead of two. This unusual addition made the beautiful girl ugly. Her father, the ruler of the place, being anxious about her future, prayed to God for help. God heard his prayers and declared that as soon as his daughter met her ordained husband, her extra breast would disappear.

When she came of age, her father sent her with royal attendants to discover where her husband was. After visiting many villages, towns and cities, her palanquin arrived at the spot where we now find the temple of Soundara- rajaswamy. At that time Nagaraja was doing penance there near a tank called Sarapushkarani.
