Cahandra Varma was a learned Brahmin.

The King of Kanyapuri gave him his daugh -ter in marriage.

When the king became old, he made Chandra Varma king in his place.

Chandra Varma had four sons. They were Vallabha, Vikramaditya, Bhatti and Bhartruhari.

After the death of Chandra Varma, Bhartru hari became the king. The old king wanted it so.

Vallabha went to a forest to do tapas, because he was saintly.

Bhartruhari was a learned man. He wrote books on right living. They are called Neeti Shatakas. Even now people read them. He ruled his country wisely for some time.

After some years, Bhartruhari became dis -contented with worldly life. So he left the kingdom to Vikramaditya, and like his eldest brother became a sanyasi.

Vikramaditya was a very brave prince. He was also learned in all the Sastras. He was a master of music, dance and all the arts. When he became king, he made his brother Bhatti his minister.Bhatti was a very learned and wise man. Under their rule, the people were prosperous and happy.
