Maheshi - Khadirvani Tara Introduction

This village in Saharsa district is rather inaccessible. The North Eastern Railway from Lucknow to Katihar stops at Mansi railway station. There is a branch line of the North Eastern Railway from Mansi to Madhepura via Saharsa. This area from Mansi to, Madhepura used to be ravaged by unpredictable floods of the Kosi River known the 'Sorrow of North Bihar.

There used to be frequent breaches in this area during the rainy season. Even now 'Mansi railway station is liable to erosion. The recent implementation of the Kosi Barrage near Birpur in Saharsa district and the construction of two large canals for diverting the excess water for irrigation are calculated to contribute to the economic stability of the district. It will also free the area from the frequent flood havocs of the Kosi.
