The Question may be asked, all this "being accepted, what then? Is not the contradiction
inevitable? It is true that religion or philosophy contrary to modem science is bound to
become sham and hypocrisy, but is there any possibility of removing the maladjustment or
averting the mischief? Can we offer to the world a new religion, which is not contrary to
science? While it may be true and may be accepted that to secure a firm basis for progress
all disharmony between science and religion and between religion and statecraft must be
removed, and an integrated and well-adjusted body of thought and feeling must be
established, is there any hope, it may be asked, of finding a solution in that direction?
Are we not leading to the position that religion must be given up altogether? Is it not
obvious that the contradiction pointed out can only be removed by the total abandonment of
religion? Is it possible, at this stage of human history, to build a religious fabric
around scientific truth as it has evolved and is still evolving?
