Avvai Page1

Narandma Avvai was a poetess of Tamil Nadu.

She lived long, long ago.

She was learned and wise.

People came to her for advice on many things.

Kings waited on her for her blessing.

Avvai treated all people alike. She helped them to lead good lives.

When Avvai was born, her parents thought she was unlucky.

So they abandoned her in the streets.

But by the grace of God she survived, grew up and became famous.

Avvai remained single throughout her long life. She never married.
