Introduction
During the reign of the Chola kings, a temple was constructed at Jayamkonda- cholapuram, now known as Cheyyur, a village in Chingleput District, 18 miles from Madurantakam. In
those days this place was a dense forest and kept as a reserve for the Chola kings to bunt. Once a Chola king came for hunting and found another person already in the forest
engaged in hunting.
This enraged the King and he pursued the fellow till he disappeared behind an anthill. By pursuing the intruder the
King became tired and his disappearance at last caused him great annoyance. The King could not control himself and let go a shaft from his bow.
