St. Paul was one of the early preachers of Christianity. He lived in the first century A. D.
Such early preachers were called Apostles.
St. Paul was born of Jewish parents. They called him Saul after the name of the first
Jewish king. Since his family was of Roman origin, they also gave him the Roman name
Paulus or Paul.
Paul had his early education in his native town Tarsus. His parents taught him-the Jewish
Bible and took him to the synagogue. A synagogue is a Jewish temple.
He learnt from his parents all about the Jewish religion. Jews believe that Israel is
their home, it has a great role to play in their lives and God would appear as a Messiah.
He also learnt from his parents the art of tent making.
