Karna forgot his mantras and astras at the most critical moment and lost his life. On one occasion this hot-tempered Guru challenged his own disciple Bhishma to a fight-the latter proving to be better than his Guru.
While this work was going on, Parashurama often departed from his self imposed banishment and acted to help some divine cause. Thus one finds him guiding and helping Shri Krishna and Balarama in their struggle against Jara sandha.
