Vidyaranya
said, "I am sorry you are not destined to have children in this life. If you so
desire, I shall make you my disciples and teach all the lore about our sastras. You will
be doing great service not only to yourselves but to the world too."
The Sayana brothers agreed and sat at his feet. Vidyaranya taught
them all that he had learnt.
The two pupils became so versed in sastric lore under his
guidance that they wrote many valuable sastra works.
Sayana wrote commentaries on the Vedas. But for his
commentaries, we would not be able to understand the Vedas today properly.
Among the most famous books of Madhava is his life-story of
the great Adi Sankaracharya called Sankara Vijaya.
While Vidyaranya was thus living in the Vindhya hills,
there came to him Harihara and Bhukka, two brothers.
