Introduction
Madurantakam is a small town in Chingleput District of Madras State. It is 50 miles south of Madras and can be reached both by rail and road. In the days of yore the place was known as Bakularanyam due to the sweet-smelling Bakula flowers which used to grow there in plenty.
The temple is situated just below the great Madurantakam Agricultural Reservoir Bund. It is of modest dimensions. The main deities are Sri Rama, Lakshmana and Sita. Sri Karunakaramurthy is also in the shrine. Anjaneya (Hanuman) is conspicuously absent here although he is generally inseparable from Sri Rama.
