Temples And Legends Of Tamilnadu Introduction

Tiruvannamalai is a Railway Station on the Villupuram-Katpadi line. The Arunachala Hill near-by is 2668 feet high above the sea level. There is a temple of Siva at the top called Tejo Lingam. Two big festivals are conducted here during the months of Karttika and Chaitra.

Once Brahma and Vishnu quarreled for ascertaining the superiority of one over the other. They went on fighting to decide the issue, when Lord Siva appeared between them in the form of a column of fire or Jyoti and a voice was heard in the air that they must stop fighting. They could not understand what that Jyoti was. So, they started to find out the beginning and the end of the Jyoti.
