On
July 3, 1950, I went to Dehotsarga to plant a tree in celebration of the first All-India
Vana Mahotsava. The words I uttered on that occasion are the only ones in which I can give
an adequate idea of my impressions:
"I am
overwhelmed with emotion in planting this tree at Dehotsarga, at the spot where Shri
Krishna 'shuffled off His mortal coil'. These few feet of earth are the holiest in the
wide world, for here He reclined, in the last few moments of his earthly existence. The
cow and the tree-He was styled 'Gosakha', the cow's companion-were His companions too.
Vrindavan is His forest.
