Introduction
Six miles from Cape Comorin, there is a mountain with an interesting legendary history. The mountain is called MARUDA Malai. Maruda is the colloquial form of Marunthu which means medicine; Malai means mountain. Thus the name means the mountain where medicinal herbs grow.
In the course of the epic fight to kill Ravana, Lakshmana, the younger brother of Rama, was hit by Ravana’s son, Indrajit, by a Nagastra, probably by arrows dipped in snake-poison or by an arrow delivering a number of serpents.
