Introduction
Sikkal is situated on Tanjore-Nagapattinam branch railway line in the Tanjore District of Madras State. It. is 6 miles southwest of Nagapattinam.
On account of a curse Kamadhenu had to descend to the earth and chose the jungle near about Nagapattinam, at present called Sikkal, as her abode. This forest was known in the olden days as Mallikaranyam, where jasmines were plentiful. Reaching the earth, Kamadhenu drained all her milk, which formed into a tank. She took the form of a tiger, and lived in the sweet- smelling forest.
