Ravi Varma Page1

You must have seen beautiful pictures of Damayanti sending her message of love to Nala through a swan, or the majestic picture of Ravana cutting the wings of Jatayu while carrying away Sita.

These pictures were painted by the late Raja Ravi Varma, a member of the Kerala royal family.

Ravi Varma was the first artist to draw colourful scenes from Indian mythology which people liked very much.

Some of his paintings of Indian gods and goddesses are worshipped even today in many Indian homes.

These pictures gave form and content to the Indian mind particularly to those with a religion bent of mind.
