First Adhyaya |
1. This is the path : this sacrifice, and this Brahman. This is the true. 2. Let no man swerve from it, let no man transgress it.

1. He (the sun), who shines, honoured this world (the body of the worshipper, by entering into it), in the form of man (the worshipper who meditates on breath). For he who shines (the sun) is (the same as) the breath.

1. He who knows himself as the fivefold hymn (uktha), the emblem of Prana (breath), from whence all this springs, he is clever. These five are the earth, air, ether, water, and fire (gyotis).

1. Verily, in the beginning all this was Self, one only; there was nothing else blinking whatsoever.
