Extract from SITAYANA

By K.R. Srinivasa Iyengar

Rama on Rajadharma (167)

"All power, Bharata, is like poison;
when it came as the first gift
of the churning of the ocean; Shiva
quaffed and stayed it in His throat.

We need the sovereign Grace of the God,
both to exercise power
and be immune from its deadly poison
always, then, Power and Grace!

In our total submission to Dharma
there's the sure promise of Grace
but those that rely on power alone
must perish by its poison".
