Introduction
Pullaranyam was a marshy land full of grass and Sri Rama chose a bed of Darbha grass, which is held very sacred by all the Hindus.The very choice of Sri Rama to have this particular grassy bed is not without significance. There is a legend behind the origin of Darbha grass. The story goes that when the great Milky Ocean was churned with Manthara
mountain as the churned resting on Sri Vishnu in the form of a tortoise, several hairs irom the back of the tortoise (Maha Vishnu) fell off.
