Rabindranath Tagore Page1

Have you seen a picture of Rabindranath Tagore? He has a smooth flowing beard and long silvery hair. His face is handsome and well proportioned. He has a large forehead, shining eyes and a shapely nose. He wears a long robe which reaches to his ankles showing only the slippers.

His skin was of the colour of ivory. Every inch of him will show his love of beauty. His calm appearance makes him look like a rishi.

Rabindranath became world famous when he won the Nobel Prize for his book of poems Gitanjali in the year 1913. The Nobel Prize is the highest award in the world.

In the last century a man called Alfred Nobel discovered the gunpowder for use in wars. He earned a lot of wealth from it. When he died, he left nine million dollars. He wrote that from the interest out of this money, the best work of the year in the world in different subjects like physics, chemistry, literature should be given a prize in his name.
