Temples & Legends Of Assam - Satras - II Introduction

Sankaradeva was not a philosopher, nor did he endeavor to evolve a new philosophy. Nevertheless, his literary works are pointers to the facts that he was steeped in the lore of Hindu philosophy. The philosophical basis of his religion, historically speaking, is the eculmination of the Bhakti movement of Northern India augmented by Ramananda, and of Southern India. Sankaradeva holds that God is the central Reality of soul and matter and neither can exist without Him. They exist in Him and are inseparable.
