Prabhasa
was a traditionally sacred place even in the days of Dharmaraj, the son of pandu. The
Mahabharata refers to it again and again.1 It was well known as a holy place situated as
it was-where the river Sarasvati flowed into the sea. It was also connected with Soma, the
Moon God. Daksha had twenty-seven daughters, corresponding to twenty-seven �
constellations, all married to Soma. Rohini, however, was the most beautiful of them, and
Soma continued to live with her. His� other wives naturally complained to Daksha, who
somehow induced him to be fair with them.
