A.D. 942, Mularaja, the son of Raji and Liladevi, driven from his ancestral kingdom,
captured Anahilavada Patan and acquired Sarasvatamandala, a small principality in the
valley of the Sarasvati.1 Hemachandra described him as the architect of Gujarat.
Mularaja is reported by Hema chandra to have said:
"Graharipu is unjust. He harasses the pilgrims and
kills the Brahmanas. How can I make friends with such a wicked man? No one can even move
freely in Saurashtra. He has destroyed the sacred Prabhasa. He has raided peaceful towns.
The son of a mlechchha woman, he has been hunting deer on the Girnar. Go and tell
him to come out and fight me."2
