Going
backwards in the order of events: when was the temple renovated prior to 1590, the year
carved on the dark yellow stone? This renovation was elaborate, but made by some one whose
means were limited. It comprised several constructions. The garbhagriha doors will was
raised by adding two risers and two treads. A door, smaller both in height and width, was
fixed on the doorsill. The original chandrashila in beautiful black granite was still seen
spreading out under the risers. Possibly the old door with the sill had been broken down
to make it look like a mosque.
