The Practice Of Mind Control

Hindu Books > Books By Rajaji > Bhagavad Gita > The Practice Of Mind Control

Dr. C. Raja Gopala Chari Page1

[Adhyaya 11--Slokas 60-63, 67. Adhyaya III-Slokas 36-41. Adhyaya XVI- Slokas 21, 22. Adhyaya XVIII- Stokas 36, 37]

The Gita teaching explained in the previous chapter, viz. that true renunciation is best exhibited in selfless performance of work and not in withdrawal from the world, is not a theory put forward to serve as a defence or an apology for those who are unwilling to withdraw from the world. It is intended to be the basis for the actual moulding of men's lives, so as to develop a habitual and spontaneous attitude of selfless- ness and detachment.

As a duck swims in water and when it steps out sheds the water from off its back, so should we learn to move in the world; not wanting in expertness or tidiness or efficiency in work, but vigilantly guarding against the development of selfish attachments. Constant practice of control of mind is essential to enable one to maintain this detached attitude.
