The Unity Of Religion And Religious Tolerance > Page1
Those today who
like to proclaim that all religions are one, seldom define what all religions have in
common. And when they do define these things they may not really be common to all
religions. Generally those who believe in the unity of religions say that all religions
recognize God and have as their goal the realization of God. Those who hold this view
often regard the idea of the unity of religions as the basis of religious tolerance and
look at those who do not accept it as somehow intolerant or narrow-minded.
Let us look at the different religions of the world and see what
they really have in common, starting with the idea of God itself. Do all religions
recognize God? God is the term Western monotheistic religions and implies monotheism-that
there is only One God who is the creator of the universe -which is not the view of reality
that we find in all religions.
