Aurobindo Ghose was a patriot, poet, philosopher and yogi.
He was born in 1872 in Calcutta as the third son of Dr. Krishnadhan Ghose and Swarnalata Devi.
His father sent him to a convent school in Darjeeling to study English. Later his parents sent him and his brothers to England for education.
Aurobindo studied in famous schools.
Besides English he learnt other languages like Greek, Latin, German and Italian. Even at
the age of fourteen, he started writing English poetry.
In England Aurobindo passed an examination called the Tripos at the famous University of
Cambridge with distinction. He sat for the Indian Civil Service examination and passed it.
However, he did not attend the test of horse-riding, so he was disqualified.
