Introduction
Mandavya Rishi a great saint with
considerable supernatural powers and deep knowledge of the scriptures -lived in a
hermitage, and used to meditate on a rock named as Kolsra, situated; on the left bank of
the Beas river at Mandi. In the olden days, it used to be on the right bank but the course
of the river had changed.
The sage was in deep meditation when the
King's Policemen followed a band of thieves and came to Mandavya Rishi's hermitage. The
saint was asked if he knew where the robbers had gone but as he was in meditation he did
not care to reply. The robbers had actually taken shelter in the hermitage after
concealing the booty.
