ALWAR TIRUNAGARI

Since Satakopa centred his whole faith and desire in the Lord’s feet, the Lord’s sandals were given the name of the Saint, viz: Satakopa. Another name given to him was Maran which means different or opposite. Since his birth, unlike other children, he never showed the characteristics of the mortal children such as wake fullness, hunger, crying and playing, etc. His worldly existence was for 35 years only, similar to Sri Sankara or Swami Vivekananda. Another name is Parankusa, probably alluding to his control over his passions (Shad Indriyas or 6 passions). Another name is Vakula Bhushana Bhaskara, for his wearing the Vakula flowers.

As Lord Narayana was to incarnate at Tirunagari, Madurakavi, a Saint was already born on earth in order to foretell the events
connected with the advent of Saints. It is said that the Saint is spiritually descended from the angel Kumuda Ganesa, a subordinate functionary under the high Lord of Hosts, Senesa. He was born in a Brahmin family of the Sama Veda and Purvasikha and his time of birth are recorded in Divyasuri Charita. As a Brahmin, all the sacraments such as Upanayanam, etc., were duly administered to him. He became well versed in all the fourteen subjects who make a wise man.
