THE TEMPLES IN BANKURA |
|
Besides a Siva
lingam there are images of Ganesh, Jain Prasanath and one Mahisamardini deity. In
the month of
Chaitra the Bahulara Siva Gajan is held spread over three days. Hundreds of Bhaktas come
to the place and do certain types of self-immolation. The PataBhaktas lie on a bed of
nails and make Brahmins sit on him. He is actually carried from the river ghat to
the Gajan area in this manner while the other Bhaktas follow him chanting 'Bom Bom Siva
Shanker". The area is full of old relics and mounds and there is no doubt that
an excavation would even now yield excellent results.
