There are seven different species of Banyan trees, Ficus Indica, which are regarded by,
Hindus as sacred and accordingly worshipped. The Aswattha comes first on the list. It is
one of the most beautiful trees, in the country and grows into a huge size. Its
large leaves, very soft to the touch, in color bright green, are 'so light and thin that
the slightest breeze sets them in motion; and as they produce an impression of most
refreshing coolness the tree is considered to possess health- giving properties. When
stirred by a breeze the leaves make a pleasant rustle of melodious sound, which can be
compared, to the tune of the Veena. |
