How
Collector Garrow was saved by Mother Vedanayaki ?
The
scene of action is laid in Bhavani, just opposite the Lord
Sangameswar's temple. The time of action is in the early nineteenth
century, precisely in 1804. It was a hot summer noon at it. The
characters are only two - One is Mother Vedanayaki, the local name
for Mother Parvathi, sharing the half body of her classic spouse
Lord Maheswar, one of the Trimurtis holding the office of
Destruction - snapping the bonds, binding mankind to this mundane
world through the vicious circles of births and deaths, and the
other is a European.
This eventful miracle of an alien - British officer saved by the
omni benevolent Mother occurred at the confluence of rivers Cauvery,
Bhavani and Amudha - an underground river joining them and made this
confluence Dakshina Prayag as portrayed in Tamil legend. The
much-hallowed and world-renowned Prayaga lies at Allahabad - where
Saraswati as antarvahini, underground river meets Ganga and Yamuna.
There is a grand temple here dedicated to Lord Siva, worshipped in
the name of Sangameswar. It is quite an ancient temple existing even
before the first Pallava king Mahendra Varma. Its entire background
is scrupulously and elaborately recorded in Tamil legend called
Bhavani Kudal Puranam.
