Though on a first reading these, verses
may appear to be old fashioned in outlook, it must be admitted that domination by one's
wife even in modern times cannot be deemed satisfactory where the husband holds the
responsibility, any more than the converse. Where the wife is by reason of her
qualification discharging a public responsibility, domination by one who happens to be her
husband would be equally unsatisfactory.
If the domination were based on
subservience to a better judgment or wider experience or deeper knowledge, the case would
be an exception. But where the domination is based on mere uxoriousness the result is
obviously bad, and it is this that is condemned by Kural. |
