EAT NO MEAT |
|
If men will decide not to kill for the
sake of eating, no one will make a trade or profession of slaughtering living creatures.
This is an answer to the argument that people live by selling meat and that if we buy meat
already slaughtered there can be no sin in it or want of compassion.
What is meat but a cruel and ugly ulcer or wound in the body of another
creature? How can one who realizes this make it an article of food? It is strange, says
the poet, that something so disgusting and so cruel can be regarded as food. |
