IMPURE LIFE

If one has falsehood in his heart and secretly breaks the law of celibacy the five elements that watch from inside his body laugh at the futile fraud. Remember that you have within you five witnesses watching your secret and shameful crime. Not God the All immanent, but even the physical elements laugh in scorn, says the poet.

Of what avail are the trappings of purity or sainthood when within him his conscience knows its inescapable guilt? The feeble-minded wearing the brave trappings of strength is like a miserable cow putting on the skin of a tiger to save itself from being impounded while feeding stealthily on the corn in a stranger's field.
