THE MAHABHARATA

King Dhritarashtra was born in the Kuru race. He ruled over Hastinapura near Delhi.

He had a hundred sons. They were called the Kauravas. The eldest of them was Duryodhana.

Gandhari was Dhritarashtra's wife.

The king was blind. Gandhari loved him. So she always covered her eyes with a cloth.

Dhritarashtra had a brother called Pandu. Pandu had two wives - Kunti and Madri. they had five sons : Yudhisthira, Bheema, Arjuna, Nakula and Sahadeva. They were called the Pandavas.

Yudhisthira was truthful. Bheema was strong . Arjuna was brave. Nakula was wise and Sahadeva was very good and wise.
