THE MONKEY AND THE WEDGE |
|
A carpenter was
splitting a log of wood in a forest. It was noon. He drove a wedge in the slit. He went
away for his food. At that time a troop of monkeys came. They jumped from one tree
to another. One of them saw the log of wood and the wedge. He became curious. He came
down. He sat on the log. He used all his strength to pull the wedge out. Lo! The wedge
came out suddenly. The monkeys tail was caught in the cleft.The pain was very great.
The monkey died.
MEANINGS
Wedge - Small piece of wood kept in the opening
Curious - Wanting to know.
Slit - Opening.
