RAJA RAM MOHUN ROY |
|
Soon after, he went
on a long journey to Tibet. Tibet is a country lying north of the Himalayas. Buddhism is
its religion. So, Ram Mohun wanted to learn all about Buddhism there.
During his study of Buddhism in Tibet, Ram Mohun criticized the image worship of
Buddhists. The Buddhist priests did not like it. They became so angry that they decided to
kill him.
Fortunately, Ram Mohun escaped from that danger through the help of some good-natured
Tibetan ladies and returned home safely.
On his return, Ram Mohun settled down in Banaras. There he took up the study of Sanskrit
and the sacred literature of India like the Vedas, Upanishads and the Sastras. |
