| Once, God
Kartikeya, in the guise of a young boy, sat on the branch of a jambul tree. He saw Avvai walking along the road. He asked her, "Grandma, do you want jambuls?" Avvai replied, "Yes, child, if you can give me." The boy asked, "Grandma, do you want them hot or cold?" Amused at this question, she said, "Give me the hot ones. Then the lad threw from the tree some jambuls. They fell on the sand below. Avvai picked them up. She blew at them to remove the sand particles sticking to them. The boy asked, "Ma, are they too hot?" and laughed. Avvai enjoyed the joke, and recognised God Kartikeya in the lad. Avvai has written many simple poems. They are full of useful lessons for the young. If you follow them, you will become great and noble. |
