RAMA GOES TO FOREST |

| You have read
of King Dasaratha of Ayodhya, his three queens and four sons. Can you tell the names of the queens and the 'sons? Dasaratha wanted to make his eldest son Rama the Crown-Prince. But there were evil-minded persons at the palace who came in the way. Kaikeyi had a maid-servant called Manthara. This servant had a hump on her back. She came to Kaikeyi and said, "Madam, the king wants to make Kausalya's son Rama the Crown-Prince. Kaikeyi said, "I am very happy to hear about it, Rama : is a very good boy. He deserves the Crown." Manthara, then said, "Poor lady! You do not understand. If Rama becomes king, Kausalya will become the king's favourite queen. She will then drive you and your son away from the palace! Don't you see ? |
