THE NARMADA

The Narmada is one of the great rivers of our country. It flows through Gujarat and Central India.

Most rivers in our country start in the west and run east.

This river starts in the centre of India and flows west. This river is also called Reva. The word Reva means noisy.

The Narmada is a holy river. Many small rivers join it to make it a large river. People from all over the country come on pilgri- mage, and to bathe in the river. Bana is a kind of Siva-Linga.

It is found only in the Narmada People take it home and worship it. There are many tirthas on the banks of this river.

Chandod, Karnali, Broach, Omkar - nath are some of the important places of pilgrimage on the banks of the Narmada.

There are the temples of Vyasa, his son Suka, and of Anasuya on the banks of the river.
