At the temple,
the priest took money and cattle from the pilgrims in the name of God. He thus earned a
lot of money. Jesus did not like it. He said:
"This priest has converted the House of God into a market-place! This is not
just."
The priest on hearing it became angry. He wanted to do away
with Jesus.
Among Jesus' followers was one called Judas. Caiap' as paid
him some money, and won him over to his side.
One night Jesus was praying after a religious supper.
Just then Judas brought Caiaphas' guards. They arrested
Jesus. Seeing this the rest of Jesus' followers ran away, and hid them -selves. They were
afraid that they would also be arrested.
The priest accused Jesus of stirring up rebellion against
the Roman Government before the Governor of Jerusalem. The Governor's name was Pontius
Pilate.
The Governor ordered Jesus to be put to death, though much
against his will because he was not quite sure of Jesus' guilt. |
