Indra, the
chief of the Devas, then went to God and prayed for help. God said: "First make peace with your cousins. Then take their help and
churn the milky ocean. From the churning will come Amrita or nectar. If you drink it, you
will be free from infirmity and death."
The Devas thus went and made peace with their cousins.
One day the Devas and Asuras started churning the milky
ocean.
Mount Meru served as the churning rod and Vasuki, the chief
of the serpents, as the rope.
God Vishnu took the from of huge tortoise and supported the
Meru from below. Or it would sink into the sea. |
