Sanskrit,
the Language of the Gods
The Sanskrit language is a living being. It is
Saraswati or Vak, the embodied Goddess of wisdom. The very language
itself teaches you, particularly the Vedic language in which sound
and meaning closely correspond and the words reflect the
cosmic creative force. This is why Nirukta or etymology is a limb of
the Vedas. It was not just a grammatical study but a means of
understanding how the universe is created. Sanskrit is a language of
such beauty and brilliance that it captivates the mind and, like a
muse, inspires us to deeper insight.
Sanskrit is the vehicle for what Hinduism really
is. To discover the essence of Hinduism on should learn
Sanskrit and contact its power, beauty and depth. Most of the
prejudices against Hinduism disappear when one learns the language
behind it and the actual meaning of its terms and principles
which are so easily distorted in their English renderings. Language
is the basis of culture. The language of a country carries its
entire cultural legacy. Through Sanskrit one ca n come into
contact with the wisdom of India and its many sages who
transcended our ordinary human awareness and contacted
realms far beyond both body and mind.
